It has been a while since Notion Ink's Adam tablet was announced, and it appears that actual shipments are finally going to start being carried out if a recent blog post is anything to go by.

Tablets are generally seen as a fast growing market, with many x86-based or ARM models having either started selling or been announced.

Notion Ink's Adam is one of those that have been on pre-order but went through their fair share of so-called troubles.

The company did not offer any visual demo of the device for quite a while, even though the specs were listed on its website.

This made some hesitate in placing pre-orders, but those very pre-orders still sold out, at least those available by late December.

More recently, it became known that the reason Adam was delayed was the fact that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) had yet to approve it.

Now, Notion Ink's Rohan Shravan gladly posted an entry on the company blog in which it says that the certification was finally given and that sales should start on Wednesday.

For those that want a reminder, the Adam is based on the NVIDIA Tegra 250 SoC (system-on-chip), which uses a dual-core Cortex A9 CPU and a ULP GPU.

1 GB of DDR2 RAM is present, along with 8 GB of NAND Flash storage (possibly more on later models) and a microSD card slot, which should let one expand said capacity substantially.

The display is a 10.1-inch WSVGA panel or a Pixel Qi screen whose native resolution is of 1,024 x 600 pixels.

A 3.2 megapixel camera is present, as are stereo loudspeakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, built-in microphone, two USB 2.0 ports, mini USB, HDMI, a DC connector and a SIM card slot.

What remains to be seen is just how well this electronic is received by reviewers and if its price is competitive enough.
