Several months ago, Notion Ink detailed the Adam tablet. This device was going to be their first slate and, for its multimedia support and interesting hardware, was seen as quite intriguing by onlookers. In the meantime, however, software and hardware technologies have advanced and, now, it appears that the company is making some preparations. The hardware may end up with a few tweaks, but the second, and more important, possibility is for a more advanced OS to be implemented.

According to the company's official blog, the Adam just received the blessing of the Indian Gods and is more than ready to put on ts final garb. This may even be accomplished reasonably soon, mostly because of the OS itself.

Notion ink supposedly aims to load the Android 2.2. However, the actual marketing window for this software is rather small, because the even better version Android 3.0 Gingerbread is bound for the end of the ongoing year.

The company clearly stated that Gingerbread is not being considered for the initial version of Adam, following speculations that it was. The first batch of slates will go with 2.2. Still, the developers did mention they were studying the minimum hardware specifications of the 3.0 iteration. Thus, it is quite possible that Adam will be upgradeable to the new version once it does come out.

I think the last post made you all think that we are considering 3.0 for the first version,”Notion Ink's Rohan Shravan said in a blog post. “Well the answer is NO. We were discussing not on the software but on the hardware. We want to ensure that it can be upgraded. But here is exactly where the issue might come, since the HW requirements are not fixed. But after the meeting we have concluded, that jumping even on HW would not be an issue for us (rest is to be seen).

For those interested in a reminder of the specification, the 10-inch slate (LCD or Pixel Qi), support for Full HD video thanks to the NVIDIA Tegra chipset, a HDMI output, multitouch and a custom user interface.

I am still waiting for this to come out. It has the potential to become an integral part of my business, and two of my friends businesses. I hope they allow you to do bulk orders!
