Over the weekend, unknown hackers managed to gain unauthorized access to the official site of Notepad++ (notepad-plus-plus.org), the popular free source code editor.

According to The H Security, the cybercriminals defaced the website and posted Facebook login windows, trying to dupe visitors into entering their usernames and passwords.

Reportedly, they used the official Facebook API to make everything as legitimate-looking as possible.

Fortunately, software downloads don’t appear to have been affected as a result of the incident.

Currently, the website is functioning properly, but individuals who have provided their social media account login credentials may be exposed to malicious operations.

If you visited Notepad++ during the weekend and entered your Facebook username and passwords, we advise you to immediately go to your account and change them, before it’s too late.

Gambit provided us with a screenshot of the defaced site.
