Tablets have slowly but surely overtaken PC and notebook sales around the world. It’s the case in Brazil as well, where recent research quoted by ZDnet has found that slates are officially the most popular personal device in the country.

Earlier this year, tablets managed to overthrow PC sales, but now they have surpassed notebook sales as well. Brazilian Electrical and Electronics Industry Association drew on IDC data to come up with the conclusions. According to them, 38% of all the PC units sold in the country for the month of August were tablets.

Notebook sales, on the other hand, only managed to snatch 36%. As expected, desktops performed the worst, managing to grab only 26% of the total market. Tablet sales grew with an impressive 134% while desktop sales slipped with 16%. Notebook demise was even more drastic with shipments slipping 28%.

The study also showed that Brazilian consumers prefer to buy cheaper tablets, produced by local manufacturers.
