Vendors of laptops, like vendors of everything else, always have some items being assembled at third-party manufacturers. Still, most of their inventories come from bulk orders placed periodically.

Sometimes, however, circumstances may dictate that the normal schedule for orders and shipments be modified.

Notebook vendors are doing something like that right now.

Since Intel is going to release a new range of CPUs next week, and the following month will be filled with the introduction of new models, they have decided to hold off on ramping up orders. That's what Digitimes reports anyway.

That will place them in a better position once the back-to-school season comes around and improves demand.

Sales plans for the second half of 2013 aren't likely to change because of this. Of course, since overall sales are expected to plummet this year, that's not as great a reassurance as it would otherwise be.
