It seems that the great majority of Taiwan-based notebook battery makers are confident that the second half of 2008 will be a lucrative one for their business. According to sources from the industry, this will occur as a consequence of the appearance of new notebook models, as well as of many netbooks from leading vendors being set for launch during this timeframe.
However, the third quarter may also bring increased
prices from most of the makers. According to them, the costs for raw materials have lately gone up, and this will be reflected in the prices their products will have. The higher prices are said to be yet another reason for the announced increased profitability, as they are likely to bring in good revenues for the makers, especially during the third quarter of this year.
Simplo Technology, one of the notebook battery makers, announced a 36.1 percent increase in revenues in the second quarter of 2008, compared with the same period last year, to a total of $231.3 million. The entire first half of this year brought the company $445.66 million revenue, meaning a 41.6 percent rise from last year's first six months.
Another maker, DynaPack International Technology, announced revenues bigger with 26.5 percent during the second quarter of 2008, to a total of $144 million. The company also said that the $261.15 million in revenue registered during the first six months was 41.8 percent higher in comparison to last year's same timeframe.
This year has not been a favorable one for all notebook battery makers, and some of them, like Celxpert Energy, registered a certain decline, stated a company filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE). It seems that Celxpert Energy summed only $15.88 million in June, 30.9 percent less revenue on a year-over-year basis, and $120.71 million during the first half of the year, which translates into a 5.1 percent decline.
