The developers of the PlayStation Vita skateboarding hit OlliOlli, UK-based Roll7, have revealed their next project, a 2D cover shooter titled Not a Hero.

The premise is a simple and familiar one, and you'll no doubt recognize it from so many '80s action blockbusters. An anthropomorphic rabbit / mayor from the future, named BunnyLord, needs a murderous loner to clean up the city during the election.

That's the cue for our hero Steve to pop up and heroically offer his meager skills wielding a gun and to take advantage of his lack of self-preservation instinct, while assisting the mysterious alien rabbit. As such, Steve will take it upon himself to clear five districts of all criminals and recruit new heroes by his cause.

Along his way, he'll slide, dive, duck and take cover in hundreds of shootouts all across the city, and Roll7 is just the developer to put it all into motion in the greatest (and only) 2.¼D cover-based shooter ever made.

Players will be able to take advantage of the quick snap cover system in order to duck behind all forms of cover, dodging enemy fire while strategically planning their next move. When enemies hear the players reloading their weapon, they'll charge at them and storm their position, attempting to put them down.

Gamers will be able to select from a wide variety of Not Heroes, using from shotguns to katanas and even savagely beating their opponents with their bare hands.

The game will be structured in missions with both primary and secondary objectives, but there will also be unexpected mid-level events that can turn the tables in an instant, like a nosy SWAT team or building security patrol.

The game is presented in the patented ISO-Slant technology, a unique and revolutionary leap in computational processing that allows Roll7 to reach the sweet spot between the 2D and 2.5D perspectives, radically altering the standard 2D-pixel action gameplay.

The existence of Not a Hero was first teased last month, when the team revealed that it was working on a brand-new and yet unannounced game at the EGX Rezzed gaming convention, taking place between March 28 and March 30 at the NEC in Birmingham.

Not a Hero is heading to PCs all over the world sometime this summer, published by Devolver Digital.

In addition, OlliOlli, Roll7's 2D side-scrolling skateboarding game, will also be released this summer for Mac, Linux, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
