The one subject that I'm always asked about, every morning, by my co-workers is what happened with GMail overnight, what features it was added and when some new things will be brought for everybody to play with. I find myself
explaining things quite often as of late, the release of GMail 2.0 looking at the moment like an ongoing rolling out. They are tweaking and patching like crazy, over at the Mountain View based company, so we'd all best keep up with it.
The only problem is that they don't just come out with a press conference or press release for them, or they do, but only for the bigger ones, like the latest AIM chat addition to the mail-based client for GMail. The rest are all shady and inconspicuous, and if we don't have time to search for them, perhaps others will have and will share that with the world.
The tooltip that showed up whenever you hovered your mouse over the name of a contact in GMail Chat has been updated, and now you can directly edit the name of the contact from the small box, as Ionut Alex. Chitu reports. The addition of the tooltip was made in October, but its growing importance just keeps popping it out in our faces, for things like copying the name of someone who sent you an email, copying the email address, reading a list of recent messages that involve that person or editing the contact details or the photo.
I've written before about the keyboard shortcuts, now there's a list available as you can see on the left, but you will have to enable the defaulted "off" keyword shortcuts setting in the respective panel. You'll also notice that GMail caches the list of search results that you at one point have asked for and the next time you input the same query, the results will instantly be displayed. And you can bookmark it, by the way. Happy mailing!
