Google's Android mobile operating system has been around for about ten months now, having been released on the market for the first time along with HTC's Dream mobile phone back in October last year. According to the company, the OS has been developed to fit best with devices that range from mobile phones to netbooks, yet the latter now have another option when it comes to the operating system that can be used.

Only yesterday, the search giant unveiled to the world a brand new operating system that should offer users the possibility to connect to the Internet in the fastest way possible – at least this is what it claims – namely the Chrome OS. Due to the fact that the new platform works on ARM chips as well as on x86 processors, its usage extends to areas that Android cannot cover, including desktop computers, though it also covers the increasingly popular netbooks.

“Google Chrome OS is a new project, separate from Android. Android was designed from the beginning to work across a variety of devices from phones to set-top boxes to netbooks. Google Chrome OS is being created for people who spend most of their time on the web, and is being designed to power computers ranging from small netbooks to full-size desktop systems. While there are areas where Google Chrome OS and Android overlap, we believe choice will drive innovation for the benefit of everyone, including Google,” the company says.

We already heard a lot of rumors and reports regarding the potential launch of Android-powered netbooks on the market, yet it seems that we should start looking around for devices that run under the new OS from Google. Most probably, the choice that the company talks about will show that Android can fit into ultra mobile machines, and that smartphones, tablet PCs, MIDs and the likes will fall into this category, while Chrome OS will come loaded into netbooks, nettops, laptops and, probably, desktop PCs as well, offering users the possibility to enjoy a platform designed to enhance the Internet browsing experience.
