A 24-year-old woman from Norway has been freed from jail after sharing her story with the press. Marte Deborah Dalelv was jailed after getting raped and reporting the incident.

According to the AP, Dalelv got a 16-month sentence which was now revoked. She had traveled to Dubai for work in March and a man that worked with her was the one to commit the attack.

When she went to local police forces, she was charged for having relations with a man outside of the marital bond.

"Are you sure you called the police because you just didn't like it?" the officer she spoke to reportedly asked her.

"Well of course I didn't like it," she responded.

"That is when I knew, I don't think they are going to believe me at all," she recalls.

The victim was thrown in jail when she came in to file the rape report. She was kept there for four days with no explanation and officers tried to talk her into changing her statement to note that the relations were voluntary.

Before the lockup, she underwent blood tests for alcohol consumption. It took three days for her to be able to call her parents, who then alerted the Norwegian Embassy.

Dalelv was freed but a trial followed, and it yielded a guilty sentence and a year and four months sentence. Since Norway and Dubai have signed no extradition treaty, her odds of getting out were slim.

She was also fired from her job with Al Mana Interiors. The company is owned by Janet Jackson's husband, Wissam Al Mana, Daily Mail informs.

They cited the fact that she "declined to have positive and constructive discussions about her employment status" as their reason to terminate her.

Media exposure and lobbying by Norwegian officials granted her a pardon, and she was able to get her passport back.
