Symantec has developed a security pack for smartphones running on Microsoft's Windows Mobile OS. The release of it has been announced for some time now, but next week it will finally be available for purchase.

Mobile phones have lately developed into a convenient environment for software virus attacks. Even more, the growing use of mobile Internet services makes the malicious software transfer much easier to occur due to data transfer from some devices to others.

As to underline the importance that reliable mobile phone software has nowadays, Paul Miller, managing director of Symantec's mobile security group, said that "Many Symantec customers - IT departments and consumers alike - understand that mobile phones represent the new computing platform". With this, they also take on the same vulnerabilities that operating on a Windows platform brings.

The security suite will come in two versions: Norton Mobile Security for Smartphones and Symantec Mobile Security 5.0. The difference between the two is that one is for individuals, while the other aims at enterprise users.

Symantec's Windows Mobile security pack will provide all the protection that a mobile phone might need, including antivirus, antispam, firewall and data encryption capabilities. Moreover, they have developed solutions for protecting the data stored on mobile phones in an easy and accessible way. This means that users can erase all data from their mobile phones remotely or even ask for a report showing all actions that have been conducted from their device.

Both version of Symantec's security suite will be available starting with 29th of May. The differences between their performances and offered features will also show in the price. Norton Mobile Security for Smartphones will be available for USD50, while Symantec Mobile Security 5.0 will cost about USD80. Moreover, the company has promised to launch an update for the Symbian software in the next six months.
