14 DAY TRIAL // Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s daughter, North West, is only 13 months old, an age when, most parents will say, kids have no idea if fashion is something they’re supposed to put in their mouth to chew like they do everything else or not. Because she’s the daughter of fashion icons, albeit in their own mind, North is a little icon herself.
For the past few days, Kim has been strutting around town with baby North perched on her hip, wearing clothes matching her own outfit. She’s also been telling the media that North is already acting like a model and has perfected the pouty pose and vacant stare her mother also employs in her selfies.
Now we know why: Kim has been trying to prepare us for the day when North would be making her modeling debut, which is today. The toddler is featured in French editor Carine Roitfeld’s magazine CR Fashion Book, in a photo by Michael Avedon.
As you can see, North is wearing Chanel clothes and has a Chanel bag on her lap, to go with the outfit. She also has her hair styled into curls: during her most recent appearances with mom Kim, she had it slicked behind her ears and parted on the side.
The photo is accompanied by a quote from Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld, who says that “It’s never too early to care about fashion,” implying that North, at her 13 months on this earth, is already fascinated with fashion. This one’s for those of you thought that, at this age, kids were more interested in eating, pooping, and playing.
“In our latest preview from our fifth Fashion Book, we reveal the youngest subject to be photographed in a story entitled ‘Legends,’ that celebrates the unconventional side of fashion icon status,” the magazine says in the preview issue. “Karl Lagerfeld sums up our sentiments best – it’s never too early to start. In this case, we’d agree that thirteen months is on the earlier end, but CR predicts a bright fashion future for the already famed daughter of Kanye and past cover star, Kim.”
So North West is already being featured in magazines and paraded around by her mother for the paparazzi. This must make Kanye either really mad or just a big hypocrite because, in one of his most recent on-stage rants against the paparazzi, he acted like the last thing he wanted for North was exposure.
In fact, his exact words were, “I want my daughter to have that opportunity to decide whether she wants to be famous or not. I think to myself, what the [expletive] am I going to do, how can I change it and how can I give my daughter her childhood?”
Well, if it’s for fashion, it’s probably ok to thrust her like this in the spotlight at the young age of 13 months.
