Odd when the country has almost no contact with the worldwide Internet

Out of all the nations in the world, North Korea is among the most isolated, sharply contrasting with South Korea where many huge corporations are based.

Among the restrictions that its citizens live under, North Koreans have no access to the Internet, for the most part.

There was a short period earlier this year when visitors to the country were allowed to use 3G in addition to texting and voice calls, but it was pulled after less than a month, possibly because of how much content from within the nation was escaping the borders.

Now, long-term visitors have a more strictly regulated web access.

Even so, however, the number of 3G accounts in the region has grown.

A year ago, there were 1 million accounts. Now, service provider Koryolink’s CEO Ezz Heikal says there are nearly 2 million, give or take.
