A Norman Rockwell painting has gone missing from a warehouse in New York, after being sold at auction recently for $1.1 million (€812,000).

An unidentified buyer purchased the "Sport" artwork in a Sotheby's auction in May. The painting was finished in 1939 and appeared on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post, as pictured above.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the pricey art work disappeared from the headquarters of the Welpak art moving and storage company.

Their building is located in Maspeth, Queens. It has been gone since September, police sources reveal.

The canvas is 27.5 by 22 inches (70 x 56 cm) big. It was auctioned off in May by an unnamed private collector from Birmingham, Ala., but it once belonged to Fred Hildebrandt, the man posing for it.
