Watch movies and TV shows from Amazon's streaming service on your B&N tablet

With more than 100,000 movies and TV shows for purchase or rental, Amazon's Instant Video service is one of the key selling points for the company's Kindle Fire tablet, but it now turns out that its archrival, the B&N Nook Tablet, can also gain access to this service via a simple hack.

The hack is as basic as it gets, since it just relies on installing the Instant Video Android application pre-fitted by Amazon on the Kindle Fire and sideloading it on the Nook Tablet.

The app is available from the xda-developers forum and should also work with other Android gadgets, provided that your device isn't routed in which case it will refuse to stream video.

It's also recommended to use a device that has a native resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels as the app was optimized for the Kindle Fire.

This makes the Nook Tablet a great contender for this role, as mobiputing has found out in its experiments.

These are of course a couple of bugs and other stability issues that make the whole experience a lot more enjoyable on the Fire, but if you own (or plan to own) B&N's new tablet there's no downside to trying this app.
