The root is permanent, but the bootloader is still locked

Out for less than a week, Barnes & Noble's Nook Tablet just received its own root hack that will enable you to access the Android Marketplace and tweak the Nook to your heart's desire.

The hack was published where else than on the XDA-developers Forum courtesy of a user that goes by the name of “Indirect” who developed a one-click Windows tool specifically for this task.

Judging by the instructions provided, the rooting process seems to be fairly simple, as it only requires users to follow a few easy steps.

Those of you that aren't running Windows as your OS have no reason to worry since Indirect also provided a series of instructions for rooting the Nook Tablet manually.

The root is permanent, but the sad news is that the bootloader is still locked so you won't be able to install any custom ROMs on the tablet. However, this is expected to change soon.
