The company again promises handsets that will impress

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has just made available for purchase its first Windows Phone devices, yet the company seems confident that the platform will prevail in front of Android and iOS devices.

Furthermore, the handset vendor believes that the market has become saturated with such devices, and that users will start looking at something new.

The company is determined to seek opportunities in this landscape, especially now that it is leaving behind the dying Symbian OS while moving to the younger, more visually appealing Windows Phone platform.

Niels Munksgaard, director of Portfolio, Product Marketing & Sales at Nokia Entertainment Global, notes in a recent interview with Pocket-lint that the new Lumia devices land on a market fed up with iPhones and Androids.

“What we see is that youth are pretty much fed up with iPhones. Everyone has the iPhone,” he said.

“Also, many are not happy with the complexity of Android and the lack of security. So we do increasing see that the youth that wants to be on the cutting edge and try something new are turning to the Windows Phone platform.”

However, the company will have to do very well if it wants to impress buyers, he continues.

"When you walk up to a retail shelf at Phones4U and see the number of black mono-blocks sitting on the shelf, it is very confusing to the consumer. We want to deliver services and phones that are different.”

What Nokia’s definition of “different” is all about includes delivering new services to end users, such as Nokia Mix Radio (part of Nokia Music), on Nokia Drive (available with Nokia Maps).

One thing that Nokia did not detail so far is the possible availability of these services to other owners of Windows Phone 7 devices. The company did say, however, that it planned on providing some of them to more users out there.
