Microsoft’s very own Surface RT is currently the number one Windows 8/RT device on the market, but Nokia is reportedly planning to challenge the tech giant’s supremacy with its own tablet.

Rumors regarding a possible Nokia Windows 8 tablet have been swirling around since late 2012, but a new report indicates that the Finnish company is finally giving the final touches to a device that’s expected to compete with the Softies’ Surface tablet.

It seems that Nokia, Microsoft’s soon-to-be friend and foe, is willing to equip its tablet with a 10.1-inch display and a resolution of 1366x768 px, but it’s not yet clear whether the famous phone maker would go for Windows 8 and Windows RT.

The timing seems a bit awkward given the fact that Nokia is reportedly pondering a May 14 release date, especially because Microsoft is already working on a Windows 8 upgrade due this summer.

In addition to the desktop version, the upcoming Windows 8.1 / Blue is also likely to bring major enhancements to the tablet version, including a new Snap View mode and support for lower resolutions and smaller displays.
