Espoo, Finland-based mobile phone maker Nokia has just made a series of improvements to its Ovi Store, the software solutions portal available for all users of a compatible Nokia device interested in downloading content on their handsets. According to the company, the improvements brought to the Store include an easier browsing experience, as well as faster search and discovering of content, the inclusion of additional information on products, and enhanced quality of content reviews.

“We’ve listened to you! Our new content rating system is based on feedback from our global user experience panels that preferred a 5 star system to our previous 3 star system. We also learned in those feedback sessions that you wanted to see improvements in the content review system. With this release and going forward, only customers who have actually downloaded something may rate and/or comment on it. In addition, you will know the reviewer’s device and when it was posted, ensuring the freshness and relevance of the user reviews you read,” a recent post on the Ovi Blog notes.

According to the post, users will notice that more information on products is offered when clicking on a content item in the new version of Store. Moreover, users will scroll through example screenshots much easier, and they will also benefit from an improved desktop experience with the service, it seems, including some changes in the UI for search. A cleaner, list-based view of content will be displayed now, so that one can choose easier what to download.

Also in the Store desktop experience area, changes affect the way in which one uses a Nokia device. In case one user clicks on an item to view content while not being logged in, one will be sent to the “Nokia Mobile Device Selector.” According to the blog post, the experience is much cleaner than before, when users were delivered a carousel-based interface. Moreover, users will be able to easily change their device through clicking “Select your Mobile” link.

The new release is available for all Nokia users with compatible devices as soon as they launch the Store application on the handset. All they need to do is to click accept when prompted to install the new software update.
