Nokia's Jucu Factory in Romania Named Global Leading Green Building

Worldwide leading mobile phone maker Nokia has announced today that its Jucu Factory in Romania has been chosen as one of the leading green buildings in the world by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The Gold Rating for Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) has been received for the first time by a building in Romania and shows the important investments Nokia has made in it since starting the construction back in 2007.

USGBC certification is received by buildings that set new standards in the design and construction, and only the greenest and most energy efficient buildings in the world qualify for it. The Nokia Jucu factory is only one of the numerous buildings around the world that achieve the LEED Gold rating that is also the first one in Romania to be recognized for its features. The first Nokia facility to have ever received the LEED Gold Certification is Nokia's China campus in Beijing.

It is an honor that our factory in Romania has been picked as one of the world's most sustainable buildings and Romania's greenest factory. This achievement demonstrates our strong commitment and investment in sustainability, efficiency and environmental quality in the way we run our daily business,” said Risto Meskus, Jucu factory managing director.

There are a wide range of innovative and sustainable features the Jucu factory facility includes, Nokia added. When it comes to energy saving, the factory has a lot of saving features that enable it to consume more than 25 percent less energy than other buildings. In the water usage area, the factory shows over 30 percent less water used compared to other buildings, the handset vendor added.

Other green features can also be enumerated when it comes to the Nokia Jucu factory, such as the recycling of materials used in construction; dedicated recycling of materials like production waste, cardboard, paper, plastic, glass, and metals; sustainable transport options for the employees, superior working environment, and more. According to Nokia, more than 60 million Euros have been invested in the Jucu factory in Romania.
