While gearing up for the release of their Windows Phone devices, Nokia is still moving forth with the release of new handsets based on the older Symbian platform, and the company has just announced that two of the newest of them have started shipping. We're referring here to the Nokia's 700 and 701 smartphones that were launched only a few weeks ago, and which were also present on the floor at the IFA 2011 trade fair in Berlin, where we got the chance to play with them a little.

The two smartphones were unveiled with the latest version of Symbian on board, called Symbian Belle, and came to the spotlight accompanied by a Nokia 600 handset.

Today, Nokia announced on Twitter that Nokia 700 and 701 started shipping, but the company did not offer specific info on when these devices might arrive on shelves.

However, when introducing them to the world, the company said that they should become available for purchase before the end of the third quarter of the ongoing year.

The Nokia 700 arrives on the market with a 1GHz application processor inside, complemented by 2GB of user memory (and a microSD memory card to add some external storage space into the mix as well), and a 3.2-inch touchscreen display with ClearBlack AMOLED technology and with Gorilla Glass.

Moreover, the mobile phone includes WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, along with FM radio, GPS receiver, compass, NFC capabilities, and a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for HD video recording.

The Nokia 701 brings along a slightly larger screen at 3.5-inch, an IPS LCD display with ClearBlack technology, said to be the brightest in the world, and hides a 1GHz application processor beneath it.

Or arrives with similar connectivity capabilities as the Nokia 700, but sports 8GB of user memory, an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back with dual-LED flash, and a front-facing camera for video calling.

As stated above, both handsets run under the new Symbian Belle operating system, which sports a new set of widgets, along with built-in NFC functionality, a new series of applications, and new customization capabilities.
