The covering area and capacity of the 3G Infrastructure Services AB network will significantly increase after the operator will sign a contract for the developing of the network, an operation which will be entrusted to Nokia, the Finnish terminal producer.
The appraisal of this transaction hasn't been made public.
Nokia has declared that this agreement regards the extension of the WCDMA (Wideband
Code Division Multiple Access), a radio network supporting third generation telephony.
In addition to the network equipments, Nokia will also provide a wide range of services for commissioning the entire structure, like the implementing of services and the ensuring of the general administering of the project, post installing operating services, support and help desk services, emergency troubleshooting and services for repairing malfunctions and replacing damaged components.
3GIS is the first shared 3G network and it will provide communication services for 70% of Sweden's population. Nokia is the unique provider of equipments of this operator.
3G Infrastructure Services AB represents a joint venture of Hi3G Access and Vodafone Sweden, which is trying in this way to share the same infrastructure until the commissioning of the 3G UMTS in Sweden.
Hi3G Access and Vodafone Sweden equally own this network and the usage. Each partner has obtained a 3G license for almost 100% of Sweden's population.
