Although the idea of launching a phone which provides instant messaging services has passed through Google's offices, developing and retailing such a phone by a company whose domain is completely different is a battle lost from the beginning.
However, developing such a phone lies in partnerships, and Yahoo and Nokia have agreed to launch a phone that combines Nokia phones with
Yahoo! instant messaging.
The Finnish terminal producer has decided to include Yahoo! binary applications into a series of phones, giving smartphones the possibility of holding real time conferences. The partnership stipulates the distribution of these phones on the markets from Asia and Europe, because the American continent is less interested in the new cell phone services. The models announced as being compatible with the Yahoo applications are Nokia 6680, 6681 and 6630.
The purpose of this initiative is to accelerate the adoption of a more virtualized life style, providing users access to known services like: email or chat through the cell phone.
Because the success of the cell phone chat is a matter of time, a significant sale increase is also expected for smartphones. The smartphone sales represent only a few percents of the global cell phone market, and the Microsoft and Symbian operating systems will become more popular in the years to come.
