If the deal were to go through, it would be one of the best things that could have ever happened to the social network. It would give it the prominence in the mobile world that none has and in return for it there's nothing it would be actually giving up, perhaps some stake for Nokia in Facebook. Ok, ok, that's not little.
The deal that paidcontent.com first heard about is said to have implications at all
levels, including giving Facebook "a major slot within Nokia retail products' displays", as David Kaplan wrote. As financially successful as this looks to be for both of the parties involved, there must be some underlying plans and catches that will most likely be sorted through by the lawyers of both companies. What I'm wandering is what the phone company will do with its own social network, Mosh, as it looks like it hammered the final nail in the coffin for it. Not successful, now not even promoted at full strength by Nokia, it certainly looks like a doom product at the moment.
The deal with Facebook is a logical step in the direction that Nokia seems to be going, adding one service after the other to its already impressive array. Meanwhile, for the second largest social network in the world it would be the follow up to the Sawner Brothers' strategic funding, pushing it further into Europe and forcing its expansion there.
As Kaplam reports, "a senior Nokia executive, speaking on background, declined to go into details about the pact with Facebook: 'There is talk of a partnership in the works… it's safe to say we're testing the waters and things still have to be worked out'." As usual, he says, e-mails and phone calls seeking comment on the deal from Nokia and Facebook representatives were not returned.
