Released two weeks ago, firmware v30.0.003 for Nokia X6 is now available worldwide. The update was initially available only for units in “select regions”. Nokia X6 has started as one of the worst S60 5th Edition smartphones, but has since become a solid music phone after receiving a series of firmware updates from the Finnish manufacturer.

Firmware version 30.0.003 is a major update, marking the software’s transition from the v2 branch to v3. The last Nokia X6 update, software v21.0.004 was released in July 2010.

Check out Nokia's incomplete changelog for firmware v30.0.003 for Nokia X6 below, which mentions the most important changes:

- New version of Here and Now; - New version of Ovi Maps and Ovi Store; - Improved Browser; - Improved chat in Ovi Contacts. Another Nokia smartphone that has received a software update is the highly acclaimed Eseries device, the E71.

The Nokia E71 has been recently updated to v501.21.001. The new firmware brings some improvements, a few new features, as well as several bug fixes.

Check out the official changelog of the firmware v501.21.001 for Nokia E71, which lists only several highlights:

- Ovi Maps 3.03 Lite with free navigation; - New version of Music player; - New version of Ovi Store; - Office 2007 support; - Usability and performance improvements.

To get the update on any of the two smartphones, users must type *#0000# on the home screen or browse to Device Manager, select Options and Check for updates, then follow the on-screen steps.

The method described above is called FOTA (Firmware Over-the-Air) and is only available for Nokia handsets that are compatible with the service.

Nokia X6 and E71 owners can also update their smartphones through the Nokia Software Updater or Nokia Ovi Suite.

In both cases it is recommended that users make a full backup, even if the devices feature UDP (User Data Preservation).
