Following the official unveiling of the new Nokia X2 smartphone, Microsoft has decided to provide some additional info on what the software loaded on the device will have to offer, as well as on what existing Nokia X users should expect moving forth.

Unfortunately, the company has shared some bad news for those who already bought a Nokia X, Nokia X+ or Nokia XL smartphone, as the new platform iteration will not be available for them as well.

The main reason for this is the fact that the new Nokia X2 lands on shelves with two buttons on the front, namely Back and Home, while the first three devices in the series feature a single, Back button.

“Because of the necessary hardware upgrades, the Nokia X software platform 2.0 won’t be available on Nokia X, Nokia X+ or Nokia XL. However, more updates will be coming to further improve the experience of those devices in the coming months,” Yannis Paniaras, Head of the Mobile Phones UX Design Studio at Microsoft in Beijing, says, a post on Nokia Conversations reads.

Unfortunately, the company has not provided further info on what said enhancements will include, and it remains to be seen how many of the newly introduced features will be pushed to the original Nokia X smartphones as well.
