Nokia X2 was officially unveiled several weeks ago, but the smartphone has yet to go on sale on the market. We reported back in July that the X2 has already arrived in India, but the handset maker is still mum on the release of the budget-friendly smartphone.

Given the fact that the first stock of Nokia X2 arrived in the country in mid-July, we would have expected Microsoft to release the smartphone in India last month, but it looks that, for some unknown reasons, Nokia fans have yet to be offered the chance to buy the device.

Well, it appears that those who have been waiting for Microsoft to put the Nokia X2 on sale in India won't have to wait too long anymore. The folks over at GizBot report that a source close to Microsoft India claims Nokia X2 will be available for purchase in this country in August.

Along with Nokia X2, Microsoft may debut another smartphone in India, the Lumia 530. However, the latter will be powered by Windows Phone 8.1, whereas the former runs a forked version of Android.

Although there are no details on the X2's exact release date and price tag, we expect the smartphone to go on sale for around Rs 8,200 ($135 / €100), which is the suggested retail price announced by Nokia.

The Nokia X2 is a slight upgrade over the rest of the smartphones in the X series. However, those who already one of the older Nokia X handsets may want to take into consideration the fact that the X2 comes with a newer version of software.

According to Microsoft, Nokia X2 is powered by a forked version of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system, which is newer than the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean platform that powers the other three X series smartphones.

The X2 sports a 4.3-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution and features ClearBlack technology and scratch-resistant glass.

It's also worth mentioning that the X2 runs the latest Nokia X platform 2 UI, while the other X series phone include an older Nokia X platform 1.0 UI version.

On the inside, Nokia X2 is equipped with a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, an Adreno 302 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

Even though the handset packs only 4GB of internal memory, users can further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD card slot. In addition, Microsoft offers no less of 15GB of free cloud storage via OneDrive.

Nokia X2 comes with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording, while in the front there's a secondary VGA camera for video calls.

Obviously, the phone offers dual-SIM capability, FM Radio function and other connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, 3G HSPA, microUSB and Bluetooth.
