On February 24, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia (now part of Microsoft) announced during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, the launch of its first Android-based handsets, in the form of the Nokia X series, and a successor for the device might arrive soon.

Today, Microsoft Mobile has posted a teaser on the Nokia Conversations blog, suggesting that a new “green” product is set to make an official appearance on June 24.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Nokia teased the Nokia X smartphone for several weeks before making it official, and that it used the green color to hint at it being powered by Android, the same as it does with the new, unannounced product today.

However, it does not come too much as a surprise that a successor to the Nokia X is being prepared, as reports on the matter surfaced online a couple of months ago, suggesting that Microsoft would announce the phone before the end of June.

Although no official confirmation on the handset has been provided as of now, all seems to point toward its imminent unveiling. And with the link to the aforementioned Nokia Conversations teaser reading “green envy 2,” we can safely assume that the new product will be none other than the Nokia X2.

Previous reports on the matter suggested that the new device would sport a series of design changes when compared to the original, which include the presence of a dedicated home button on its front.

Nokia X came with a single back button beneath its screen, and some users complained about it, claiming that it was rather confusing, especially when one was trying to go to the home screen as fast as possible.

Nokia X2 appears set to change that, while also said to arrive on shelves with a larger, 4.3-inch touchscreen display that should boast a WVGA (800×480 pixels) resolution.

Moreover, the upcoming smartphone is expected to feature a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, complemented by 1GB of RAM, which should translate into improved performance capabilities when compared to the original.

Other specs of the device should include a 5-megapixel camera on the back, VGA front camera, 4GB of internal memory, and dual-SIM capabilities. No info on the Android version loaded on the device has been provided as of now.

All in all, Nokia X2 appears to be a worthy successor to the Nokia X, yet it remains to be seen whether the rest of the handsets in the series (namely Nokia X+ and Nokia XL) will also receive a refresh. Stay tuned for more on this.
