We have previously reported that T-Mobile USA might be receiving Nokia's X2-01 entry-level QWERTY handset on February 16th.

After the early cancellation of the Nuron 2, which was expected to be available from T-Mobile sometime in February, the carrier decided to refresh its Nokia portfolio with a new device, the X2-01.

Even though Nokia's presence in North America is weak to say the least, in light of the new partnership with Microsoft, fans of the brand will probably see a 'boom' of Windows Phone 7 based Nokia smartphones launched through various carriers in the US, at the end of the year.

Rumors speculate that Nokia has carefully chosen the Nokia X2-01 to be retailed by T-Mobile USA, as the feature-phone has been recently made available in India for under $100, where it purported a considerable success.

Despite the smartphone-like look of the handset, this is in fact a simple feature-phone that runs on Nokia's S40 6th Edition UI.

The X2-01 has a small 2.4-inch TFT display with 262K colors support and 320x240 pixels resolution.

The mobile phone measures 119.4 x 59.8 x 14.3 mm and weighs 107.5g, thus being perfectly “pocketable” and well balanced. It packs a sub-par VGA camera (max resolution 640 x 480 pixels) with modest video recording capabilities (176 x 144@15fps).

Other key features of the handset include GPRS/EDGE class 32, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support, 55 MB, 64 MB RAM, 128 MB ROM, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 8GB) and Stereo FM radio with RDS.

The phone is powered by a standard Li-Ion 1020 battery, rated by the manufacturer for 480 hours of standby or 4 hours and 30 minutes of talk time.

Just as expected, Nokia X2-01 is available for only $79.99 from T-Mobile's prepaid lineup. The handset is only available in black.
