The first ever Android smartphone launched by Nokia on the market, the X, has been officially introduced in India. During the launch event for the media, the Finnish company confirmed that the Nokia X would be available for purchase immediately.

This is despite the previous rumors pointing to a March 10 official announcement, followed by a March 15 release on the market. Anyway, according to Nokia, the X will be available right away for only Rs 8,599 outright, which is about $140 or €100.

The good news is that Nokia will be selling the dual-SIM version of the smartphone in India, while the single-SIM model won’t be officially available in this country.

It is also worth mentioning that the dual-SIM Nokia X will be available in India in Cyan, Yellow, Green, Red, Black and White. Other colors may be added in the future, but these are the only options available at launch.

AndroidOS reports that customers in India who purchase the Nokia X will also receive one month of free Skype calling, along with 10GB of free storage via OneDrive. We’re not sure how long these offers will be available or whether or not they are time limited.

Android enthusiasts looking to grab Nokia’s affordable Android smartphone should know a few things before making their investment.

For example, the Nokia X does not offer access to Google Play Store. Instead, the X users will be provided with lots of applications and games via Nokia Store.

The Nokia X ships with a forked version of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box. It also runs Nokia’s Fastlane UI on top, which is the standard user interface for Asha smartphones.

However, those who don’t find the app or game they are looking for within Nokia Store can sideload any Android application onto their devices.

The dual-SIM Nokia X is an entry-level Android smartphone, so don’t expect any impressive features under the hood. The device is powered by a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play processor, an Adreno 203 graphics processing unit and 512MB of RAM.

Although the handset comes with only 4GB of internal memory, users are offered the possibility of further expanding storage up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

The X also sports a 4-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution, as well as a 3-megapixel photo snapper on the back that features video recording capability.
