Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has been confirmed to plan on bringing its first Windows Phone devices to the market in India in the first quarter of the next year.

D Shivakumar, Nokia India managing director, is the one who confirmed the move, though no specific details on the devices that will be released have been unveiled.

“Work for the Windows phone is on track and it would be launched in the first quarter of next (calendar) year,” D Shivakumar stated, according to recent article on The Economic Times.

In February this year, Nokia announced plans to dump Symbian and bring to the market only smartphones that are powered by Microsoft's Windows Phone platform.

The first such handset is expected to become available for purchase before the end of the ongoing year as the Nokia 800, but it will reach global availability only in 2012.
