Nokia has recently released new firmware updates for some of its mobile phones, including the Nokia N82 and Nokia N78 handsets. While the former has been upgraded to the 31.0.016 version, the latter sees its software bumped up to v20.149.051.1. There are a lot of improvements and new features brought by the new releases, yet it seems that some issues are also present, at least in what N82 is concerned.

The firmware 20.149 for Nokia N78 delivers improvements and new features such as new names in the home screen and menu, different share online icon in standby screen, instantaneous response of the music player via the standby screen, faster switch between tracks in the player, as well as improved scrolling speed through the entries in the standby screen.

Other speed improvements have also been noticed with the transition to call/disconnected screens, as well as with the calling speed, faster interface and speed through all menus in the music player, the Photos application provides a better response, while the help function is also faster than before. Moreover, users will benefit from a new RealPlayer interface, “Application update” added to Applications, new options under each heading in Carousel menu, as well as a wide range of other changes and improvements across all menus.

As stated above, Nokia N82's firmware has been updated to version 31.0.016, which is reported to bring along UDP (User Data Preservation). There seems to be a range of bug fixes included in the release, although no official changelog has been released on the Web. Firmware v31 seems to come with some issues connected to the Nokia Maps, which are reported to hang after the launch. According to some users, the problem might be solved by introducing a valid SIM into the device and ensuring that 3G data is working.

The new firmware updates can be installed via Nokia's Software Update service. Keep in mind that you should make a data backup before proceeding with the installation process, just to make sure you won't lose any important files on the handset.
