14 DAY TRIAL // Today, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia made available for download a new flavor of its Lumia Storage Check beta app, which offers support for most of the company’s Windows Phone 8-based devices.
The application was designed to provide users with a glimpse at the phone memory usage, while also enabling them to manage it, should they needed it, and brings along a wide range of improvements in the latest release, it seems.
The software will now offer app data included and sorted by size, and further details on the second page, while also enabling users to manage maps from it, and to have a look at the memory usage of photos and music.
“As before, the app will show you first an overview and then details on the second page, app details and now as a new feature, ability to manage your Maps data,” a blog post on Nokia Beta Labs explains.
“The offline maps are hugely valuable when travelling and with the help of this tool, you can now store them on SD card too, vacating some phone memory.”
Lumia Storage Check will also offer a glimpse at the temp files created by the system, some of which can also be deleted, it seems.
Storage information for Office docs (including OneNote notebooks, copies of docs accessed from SharePoint and SkyDrive) on the phone was also included, along with details on videos, which are shown separately.
“In the beta version we are also adding some debugging to give us a better picture why it fails to start in some cases or just ‘spins’ forever. If you have this problem, please let us know if the beta fixes the issue for you and also if it doesn't,” the company notes.
Other features of the app include Email+contacts Storage Information, Ringtones Storage Information, System info, and others, which also includes stuff that the user has little control over.
The application is available for download for all Lumia 820 (and Lumia 822) and Lumia 920 smartphones with firmware 1232.5957.1308.0000 and higher, Lumia 920T based on software 2041.0009.1308.1002 and higher, and Lumia 520, Lumia 620 or Lumia 720 with OS 1030.6407.1308.0000 and higher.
