Finish mobile manufacturer Nokia has teamed up with Nuance Communications, a provider of speech and predictive text solutions, in order to bring innovative mobile speech and predictive text capabilities to Nokia's mobile devices.
This is quite an unusual arrangement, because
Nokia, besides licensing Nuance's speech-recognition and predictive technologies for internal use, will also make them available to the developers that are working with it.
Nokia Senior Vice President Lee Williams said that, “As a mobile industry pioneer, we’re continually bringing the best devices to market that not only capture our focus regarding design and leading edge technology, but that also meet the consumer’s need for innovative, easy-to-use solutions.” Williams then continued by saying, “By working closely with Nuance on leveraging their broad portfolio of mobile input solutions and to open up a framework for industry collaboration, we’re not only able to take advantage of their predictive text and speech software solutions, but also help in the creation of a vibrant ecosystem – one wherein the mobile applications and services of tomorrow can develop and flourish at a faster rate than otherwise possible.”
“The agreement with Nokia demonstrates the impact of our mobile and predictive text capabilities, and supports our broader vision of an Open Interface Framework that brings the mobile industry together in developing innovative, next-generation
mobile solutions.” Nuance said, through President of the Mobile and Consumer Services division, Steve Chambers. “Nuance and Nokia are working together to enhance the overall mobile user experience, offering consumers a simple, safe and convenient way to interact with mobile phones. By tapping into our wide portfolio of mobile text and speech text technology, Nokia can make it easier than ever for users to control mobile devices and access advanced mobile applications, services and content.” Chambers further explained.
It is obvious that Nuance stands to gain considerably from this agreement with Nokia, since it will bring prestige to the company but, at the same time, users will also benefit from the new technologies that Nokia is to implement in its handsets.
