Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has been long rumored to plan the release of a large smartphone before the end of this year, and the latest reports on the matter suggest that the company is as good as confirmed to make the move.

A source “familiar with Nokia’s plans” allegedly said that the vendor would launch the handset this year with a 1080p touchscreen display (supposedly larger than 5 inches), and that it would also pack a quad-core processor inside it, MyNokiaBlog reports.

The smartphone should arrive on shelves with the upcoming Windows Phone 8 GDR3 OS flavor loaded on top, which has been long said to bring along support for better hardware.

No other details on the handset have been unveiled, but rumor has it that Nokia could plan the unveiling of this device in late September, during a press event expected to take place on the 26th of that month.
