T-Mobile Austria and Nokia Siemens have just announced a new partnership for the upgrade of the carrier's GSM network. This is the second time the two companies team up, after Nokia Siemens Network previously helped the carrier modernize its 3G network in 2009.

Following the announcement, the communication network supplier will provide the carrier its HSPA+ network software, which supports data speeds of up to 21 Mbps and is said to be capable of reaching 42 Mbps in the future.

“With people wanting to be connected round the clock, there’s a growing demand for mobile broadband, resulting in an increase in data traffic,” said Rüdiger Köster, chief technology officer, T-Mobile Austria.

“The HSPA+ upgrade from Nokia Siemens Networks delivers better voice telephony and data services for our customers,” added Köster.

Thanks to the collaboration between the two companies, T-Mobile Austria subscribers will have faster Internet access with mobile data speeds of up to 21 megabits per second (Mbps).

Furthermore, the upgrade will shorten voice and data call set-up and response times while increasing data speeds and improving smartphone battery life.

“In a rapidly evolving market, operators need to exploit popular trends and retain subscribers by meeting their needs,” said Jos Grond of Nokia Siemens Networks, who heads the Deutsche Telekom customer business team in Sub-region West.

“Mobile broadband is fast gaining subscriber adoption. With HSPA+, T-Mobile Austria improves data speeds and better manages network capacity during peak times, further improving customer satisfaction and loyalty,” concluded Grond.

T-Mobile Austria also stated that mobile data speeds will be boosted to 42 Mbps, but hasn't disclosed any specific date for the upgrade.

In addition, the software provided by Nokia Siemens Networks includes features that allow T-Mobile Austria to automate network processes and lower operating costs.

The carrier will also be able to constantly monitor the networks, simplify operations and save additional costs.
