Telecom and network equipment supplier Nokia Siemens Networks has recently announced the launch of its Smart WLAN Connectivity Solution, which helps operators deal with mobile network traffic congestions.

According to Nokia Siemens Networks, the solution improves mobile broadband by offloading traffic to Wi-Fi without any interruptions in service.

The Smart WLAN Connectivity Solution provides faster data connections and makes sure that mobile network capacity is not overloaded at the same time.

For the end user, it also removes the need to manually switch a device’s data connection between Wi-Fi and cellular broadband, as the solution is capable of handling the transition without interrupting service.

We all know that mobile data traffic is growing at an exponential rate due to the widespread adoption of smart phones, tablets and net books,” said Thorsten Robrecht, head of network systems product management at Nokia Siemens Networks.

All these devices support Wi-Fi so integrating Wi-Fi with mobile networks can reduce the need for additional capacity in the wider mobile network, particularly, in traffic hotspot areas. People can enjoy a superior and seamless service without the hassle of having to choose among different networks and technologies, resulting in higher customer satisfaction and loyalty,” added Thorsten Robrecht.

In addition, the new Wi-Fi product allows carriers to intertwine multiple Wi-Fi and mobile networks, thus providing increased overall network capacity capable of supporting both data and voice services.

Nokia Siemens Networks’ Smart WLAN Connectivity Solution will be available for commercial use in the first half of 2011.

Further details regarding requirements and capabilities will be disclosed at the 2011 Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona, where the solution is expected to be launched and demonstrated.
