Nokia Siemens Goes Green in Slovenia

- While Tusmobil's network goes 3G

By: Florin Troaca, Communications News Editor

Nokia Siemens announced it has closed a deal with Tusmobil, a leading Slovenian mobile operator, in order to deploy no less than 400 environmentally-friendly base stations which will allow Tusmobil to expand and upgrade its network from 2G to 3G.

Following Nokia Siemen's
deployments, Tusmobil will be able to offer new services, including mobile television and high data transfer speeds (up to 14 Mbps). Sure, the latter feature depends on the phones users have, because you won't be able to achieve a high speed with a handset that lacks 3G connectivity.

Being environmentally-friendly, the new base stations of Tusmobil will bring power savings of more than 60% when compared to classical 3G stations. Moreover, the Flexi base stations deployed by Nokia Siemens will also bring better services and reduced operational costs.

"Tusmobil is committed to offering Slovenians exciting and unique mobile services," declared Marko Fujs, Tusmobil's Chief Executive Officer. "Nokia Siemens Networks has the capacity and support services to make this one of the fastest network roll-outs in Europe and so our subscribers will be able to enjoy the benefits of a modern high speed network before the end of 2008."

"Nokia Siemens Networks is excited to support the expansion of Tusmobil’s range of services with the fast deployment of a ‘green’ and environmentally-friendly technology, being one of a kind in Europe. We are proud to extend our successful partnership with Tusmobil from their existing GSM/EDGE network to an innovative and modern high speed multimedia network for the future," declared Konstantinos Koroneos, Customer Team Head for Tusmobil at Nokia Siemens Networks.

For those who don't know, Slovenia is a small European country which has Austria and Italy as its Northern and respectively Western neighbors. It has a little over 2 million inhabitants, almost all of them owning at least one mobile phone, so we can say Slovenia is a mature mobile market.
