Nokia Siemens Networks announced the launch of its 3G Femto Home Access solution, a new and innovative approach to home access that features open interfaces and a unique network element: Femto Gateway. This new solution, besides improving the overall femto cell ecosystem, will help network operators to boost their 3G services in order to provide a better home experience for customers.

The 3G Femto Home Access solution represents an ultimate way to improve WCDMA 3G coverage and it will let home users enjoy superior 3G services through any WCDMA-enabled device. Operators will have the chance to reinforce customer relationships, because the new Nokia Siemens solution helps them offer appealing services and tariffs, stimulating subscribers to use WCDMA 3G services.

Ari Lehtoranta, Head of Radio Accessa at Nokia Siemens Networks, said: "Our novel Femto Home Access solution meets what the market really needs. It is a strong combination of telecommunications end-to-end expertise, femto cell know-how and consumer mass market understanding. We are driving a network solution with standard and open interfaces to enable open innovation and variety of supply for the Femto customer premises equipment."

The Femto Gateway element introduced by the 3G Femto Home Access solution can be connected to any operator's core network via a standard interface without requiring any changes in the network. Femto Gateway will permit connections to customer equipment from different producers, because it relies on a extended standards-based approach towards the Femto CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) at homes. Collaborations between Nokia Seiemens Networks and Femto CPE vendors will be established to guarantee the best interoperability.

Femto CPE's are easy to install at home and they use IP broadband backhaul. The Femto cell functionality can be brought to home gateway devices along with different other features like WiFi, Ethernet storage or routing.

The 3G Femto Home Access solution will not be launched until next year: trials are planned for the beginning of 2008 while commercial deployments should start in the second half of the year.
