Users in the UK and the United States interested in the purchase of a new handset from Nokia who would like to make the purchase via Nokia's online store will no longer be able to do so, as the company has just shut down the virtual storefronts in these countries. These are not the first online stores that Nokia closes, but only two of the many, as the company is cutting down expenses, and is restructuring its entire organization.

Previously, the company closed its online storefronts in France, Spain and the Netherlands, and is set to shut down even more of them.

A previous article on Mobile Today cited a company's spokesperson who confirmed plans to bring down even more of the Nokia online stores.

“The closure is not only in the UK but will also include our online stores worldwide. We are working closely with partners as part of a company overhaul and closing our online stores is part of a wider company strategy,” the said Nokia official stated.

“We have many other retailer outlets that our customers can use to purchase our products. These channels will allow us to continue to meet our customers’ needs.”

The leading handset vendor did announce a few weeks ago that it planned on closing the UK online store as of today, a move made as part of its new long-term strategy to revamp its services.

As of today, users in the UK or the US who will try to purchase mobile phones from Nokia's local websites will be redirected to other retailers. In the United States, for example, users will be redirected to Amazon, as TNW notes in a recent post.

The mobile phone maker will also shut down its online stores in Germany, Ireland, Italy, Russia and Switzerland in the near future, it seems.
