As expected, Nokia has just revealed full details on the upcoming protective cover for the cheapest Windows Phone 8 handset launched under its logo, the Lumia 620.

Rather than getting an IP57 certification for the Lumia 620, Nokia thought it would be easier and wiser to offer customers the option to improve their devices’ protection against dust and splashes of water.

According to Nokia, Lumia 620’s protective shell has IP54 certification and offers the protections mentioned earlier. It makes a nice addition to those who need this kind of features.

“The protective shell improves the dust and splash protection. The gaps between the camera window and the shell as well as the display and the shell are better sealed, and the mesh that covers the loudspeaker is denser, making it harder for water or dust to get in,” said Harri Vuolle, Lumia product manager at Nokia.

Furthermore, the Finnish company explains this protective shell has been manufactured using a dual-shot process, which is the same technique used for other replaceable back covers available for Lumia 620.

Nokia has confirmed the interior of the cover is made of polycarbonate while the exterior is made of TPSiV, a more flexible, rubberized material.

The new protective shell for Nokia Lumia 620 will be up for purchase for only €25/$30 in late March, depending on the market. Nokia also unveiled it would only be available in grey with grey exterior and yellow interior.

“While the protective shell does not make your Lumia 620 indestructible or 100% waterproof, it’s ideal for people who enjoy active lifestyle where working up a sweat, getting caught up in a rain or dropping the phone can be a regular occurrence. It’s also suits people who want to use their smartphone at work, even if it’s a dusty, damp environment,” concluded Vuolle.
