Some more realistic than others

Nokia jumped on the occasion of showing off its latest application concepts for the S60 phone series. The company presented all the software with great potential of being deployed in the future during the "The way to live next" event recently held at Oulu, Finland.

Among the most interesting applications presented, there is the "Point and Find". This allows camera-equipped S60 handsets to shoot an image and then look it up over the Internet for further information. Another interesting concept is called "The Shoot to Translate" and it allows people to capture words in foreign languages and translate them in real time. That should prove to be extremely handy, especially when in a foreign country, where even people use a different alphabet.

The event also showcased a concept S60 application which allows remote controlling of a fully automated home. This makes a more futuristic approach of mobile phone use, although still a pretty interesting one. Developers also thought of a car data monitoring which delivers live data on the vehicle working parameters. Another useful, but still experimental application is the "Ask Your Mobile" one, which allows users to ask (in free text) their Nokia device any question they might need an answer to.

Nokia also presented some mini applications for mobile phones, highly similar to the so-called widgets. They are capable of bringing all the favorite web content to the user's mobile phone for free. The service should be offered by Widsets.com and is based on Java, which makes it compatible even with the less evolved handsets. Among the most popular widgets, there are also the mobile versions of YouTube, Flickr, Ebay, Wikipedia, IMDb, some weather forecast, as well as a great number of news services.

They all sound like pretty interesting and useful concepts, although we still have to see which one of them will make it for actually being used on Nokia handsets in the future.
