Nokia is reported to be getting ready to launch the Nokia Royal Edition, a new handset that leverages even more the luxury that we've seen on the Nokia Carbon Arte. According to the news, the new mobile phone will sport around 1160 individually-set sparkling gems, while being covered in solid platinum fixed with 8 handmade platinum screws.

The platinum cover weighs a total of 65 grams, which would be an amount equal to around 16 platinum wedding bands, since one of them usually weighs only 4 grams. The new Nokia Royal Edition mobile phone combines the elegance of platinum with the radiance of diamonds into a really exquisite work of art. In addition, the handset comes to the market in a handmade box built from granite and leather.

The Finnish mobile phone maker has designed the new Nokia 8800 Royal Edition model to outpace its predecessors in terms of ostentatiousness, although it can not be considered better looking all the way up. From what we've heard, only 50 such phones are to be manufactured, all crafted in the UK by Goldstriker’s Stuart and Katherine Hughes.

The Nokia Royal Edition is expected to be launched on January 31st at the Colette boutique in Paris, and it will be available for purchase online as well, on the Stuart and Katherine Hughes’ website. No details on the price of the new mobile phone have been disclosed so far, but expect it to be anywhere but cheap.

Those who remember the Nokia Carbon Arte, as well as the entire Arte family of handsets should have an idea of the new exquisite device that the company will launch tomorrow. Since this is not the first luxurious device to come to the market, for sure it won't be the last one either, so expect more gold, platinum and diamonds to surface on handsets in the future.
