Nokia launches the second edition of the "Mobile Rules!" competition for developers and entrepreneurs working in the mobile telecom environment. The competition aims at promoting excellent results in services and applications created for handsets.

The competition has been conducted last year under the name of "Web2Mobile". The change of title marks the evolution of the competition's concept, as it also features increased scope, prizes and reach.

As the worldwide leading mobile phone producer, Nokia can calmly stand back and have an analytical perspective on what other companies in the telecom world are doing. The competition is divided into two areas. The first is designed for developers who work on mobile applications for Nokia platforms. It is split in four categories: "multiplayer and connected games", "multimedia", "enterprise" and "infotainment". On the other hand, the second area aims at entrepreneurs, small businesses, start-ups and academic institutions.

" 'Mobile Rules!' is a way for us to encourage and promote innovation in mobile services and, at the same time, it reflects Nokia's inclusive attitude towards partnering with external organizations", said Vesa Luiro, Director, Communication Solutions with Nokia. It's extremely considerate of them to present such an "inclusive" attitude, although it's unlikely to see direct competitors for the Finnish company crowding to subscribe for the competition. Actually, this is a contest designed especially for the emerging developers in the telecom industry.

"On one hand, demand and the scope for innovation are great. On the other, the crowded market means it can be difficult for smaller companies, entrepreneurs and developers to get their voice heard. 'Mobile Rules!' allows Nokia to promote excellence in mobile and - as well as providing immediate recognition and valuable prizes - will open doors for our winners in the years ahead", said Vesa Luiro, Director, Communication Solutions with Nokia.

Mobile solutions and development areas are among the most challenging areas in the telecom industry. The five overall winners of this competition will have the chance to develop a contract with one of the competition sponsors or a cash prize.
