Nokia Releases Qt 4.6.0 Beta 1 for Symbian, Download Here

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has announced recently that it has released the first official Qt port for Maemo and that the Qt 4.6 is really near, and now it has already launched the beta version of Qt 4.6.0 for Symbian. The new release is mainly focused on stabilizing the Symbian port and will reportedly work on handsets that run under S60 3.1, 3.2 or 5.0 (S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 or 2, or S60 5th Edition).

In case some of you might not know already, Qt is a cross platform application and UI framework from Nokia, and the Finnish company expects it to become a key developer offering when it comes to the Symbian and Maemo platforms. The new Qt 4.6.0 beta 1 for Symbian is now available for download for PC platforms, including Windows, Mac and Linux, and a demo version is also available for the aforementioned Symbian flavors (download links below).

Here's what a post on Qt Labs' Blog shows that has been changed in the new release:
- We’ve moved into the Qt 4.6 branch.
- We’ve added an experimental backend for Phonon (using MMF). It plays audio and video!
- We’ve fixed a lot of bugs! Still lots left though.
- We’ve added the possibility to have a mouse curser on non-touch devices!
- QtWebKit has been updated to a newer version
- The QtScript engine has been completely replaced with a nicer and faster one from WebKit.
- We’ve added daily snapshots.
- Ariya has added some new nice demos. Check out the video below.
- We’ve also removed support for compiling qmake with the Nokia Win32 compiler, but added support for MinGW and Visual Studio 200x instead.
