Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has been long rumored to be launching a new high-end Nokia smartphone in the near future, namely the Nokia RM-927, and the handset has just received the necessary approvals from the Global Certification Forum.

The handset can be seen on this page at GCF with GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz, EDGE: Class 12 and CDMA (UTRA FDD) Bands I, II, V and VIII, capable of offering HSDPA: Category 14 and HSUPA: Category 6 connectivity. Moreover, the smartphone packs support for LTE Band 4 and Band 13.

According to the listing, the handset was actually approved in October last year, but info on it was published only now.

Previous reports on the Nokia RM-927 suggested that it could arrive in the United States on the network of Verizon Wireless, as it had already made an appearance at the FCC back in September.

At that time, the phone was said to pack a screen of between 4.7 inches and 5 inches, capable of delivering a 720p or 1080p resolution.

The handset was also rumored to feature a 20-megapixel camera on the back, and to be measuring 137 x 71 (x ~9) mm. It would also arrive on shelves with Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC capabilities.

Basically, this phone appeared to be a new version of the Nokia Lumia 1520, which has already been launched in the United States on the network of AT&T with a larger, 6-inch touchscreen.

A closer look at the rumored specs of Nokia RM-927 also shows that it could prove to be none other than the Nokia Lumia ICON that has leaked quite a few times during the past few months en route to Verizon Wireless.

The phone, previously spotted online as Nokia Lumia 929, has also made an appearance on Verizon’s website recently, but was removed soon after.

Given that Nokia RM-927 has already received both GCF and FCC approvals, it might not be too long before it makes an official appearance, so stay tuned to learn whether we’re indeed looking at the Nokia Lumia ICON for Verizon.
