14 DAY TRIAL // In addition to announcing the launch of new mobile phones at Nokia World, the Finnish handset vendor also announced the availability of new tools for application developers out there, including the release of Nokia Qt Software Development Kit (SDK) 1.0.1.
All new Nokia smartphones come with Qt pre-installed on them, and the Nokia Qt SDK is expected to offer developers the possibility to reach all Nokia users with great applications.
“Using the Nokia Qt SDK to build their apps, developers will discover a complete, easy-to-use tool that brings a shortened workflow, simplified development and intuitive UI libraries resulting in 70 percent fewer lines of code, cutting creation time dramatically,” the company announced.
Moreover, the SDK is expected to offer developers the possibility to adapt their applications to run on future mobile platforms, including MeeGo, while benefiting from any other APIs these OSes would bring.
“The Nokia Qt SDK leverages the power of the Qt framework and tools, combining them with tools designed to streamline the creation of apps for Symbian and the Maemo platform,” the company states.
The new SDK comes into the wild with the Qt Simulator, which is aimed at enabling the testing of applications meant for Symbian and Maemo devices on a computer.
The new solution can be installed on computers running under Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, as well as on Ubuntu Linux 7.04 or later and on Apple Mac OS X 10.6 or later (Beta).
Any application built with the Qt SDK for the Nokia N900 or with the Smart Installer for the packaging of apps on supported Symbian devices can be submitted to the Ovi Store.
“Please note that apps created with the Nokia Qt SDK for the Nokia N900 mobile computer require the device to have firmware version 10.2010.19-1 or later,” the company announced.
