Only a few days after its North American version of the 5800 XpressMusic mobile phone was reported to come with 3G issues, Nokia has announced that the handset has been fixed. Basically, the Finnish phone maker has come up with a new firmware version for the device, one that fixes a “configuration change” the company holds responsible for the 3G connectivity problems with the AT&T networks.

In addition, the cellphone maker also announced that the updated handset would start shipping shortly. At the same time, those who already purchased the NAM version of the phone and experienced issues are advised either to call Nokia Customer Care or to go to a Nokia Flagship store so that their device is replaced with a new one.

Unfortunately, users are not able to perform the firmware update by themselves, yet it is a great thing that the company moved into the matter so quickly. As many of you might remember, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic in the US was reported to come with 3G bugs only a few days ago, after being stated to come with a faulty speaker last week.

As soon as complaints about the handset's problem surfaced, the company pulled it off the shelves, which we should agree didn't come too well for the phone maker. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has seen great traction from users all around the world, and it is expected to make a great impression on the North American market as well, possibly taking some of the market share iPhone currently has.

Here is what Nokia had to say officially about solving the 3G connectivity-related issue: “Following the introduction of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic in North America, some consumers reported difficulties connecting with the local 3G network. As customer satisfaction and product quality are a priority for Nokia, we took immediate action by temporarily suspending sales and moving quickly to identify the root cause and resolution.”

“We have concluded this was an isolated situation related to a configuration change in the North American variant. We have now adjusted the configuration and will resume sales shortly. Those few customers of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic who experience a 3G signal issue are advised to contact Nokia Customer Care. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience.” the company added.
