Following the success of the Ramadan-related content in 2006 and 2007, Nokia has released new mobile applications dedicated to the Muslim religious celebration that will start at the beginning of September.

Available as free downloads or pre-loaded on select Nokia handsets, the applications for this year's Ramadan include:

- Quran, coming in Othmani font but also with a multi-lingual interface. Users can search and bookmark any Surah and Ayah they want;

- Ramadaniat, which is a comprehensive collection of useful data about fasting, the I'tekaf, Zakah Al-Fitr and the benefits of Laylat Al-Qadr;

- Emsakya - alerting users about the times for the daily prayer, Iftar and Suhour;

- Hajj & Umrah is a guide for the journeys with the same names. Includes multimedia content plus places that travelers can visit on the way to Mecca;

- Mozzaker - read and/or listen to a collection of daily Azkar and send them via SMS or MMS to friends or family;

- Cards let you design Mobile Greeting Cards for various occasions. These can be sent as SMS or MMS.

Moreover, phones that are compatible with Nokia Maps can easily locate important mosques in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Pakistan, Egypt and Morocco.

The Nokia devices that come pre-loaded with Ramadan applications are: Nokia N78, Nokia N70 Music Edition, Nokia E51, Nokia 6500 Slide, Nokia 6300, Nokia 3120 Classic and Nokia 2630. Of course, these handsets can include the content mentioned only if you buy them in the Middle East or Africa.

"The overwhelming response and feedback that we received from last year's offering allowed us to improve and expand this year's application, making it a complete solution that gives Nokia users a single and easy access to many of the cherished experiences that Muslims like to be close to during the Holy Month," declares Chris Braam, Vice President of Sales at Nokia Middle East and North Africa.

The Nokia Ramadan website can be accessed here (in Arabic), here (in English) or here (in French).
