The smartphone will resemble Nokia's Asha series a lot

Nokia Normandy, the long-rumored Android-based smartphone from Nokia, has made it online in a new leaked photo, one that appears to provide us with a glimpse at its App Launcher.

The smartphone has been spotted online quite a few times lately, with an engineering prototype of the device making an appearance only yesterday, and the newly leaked photo with it appears to be in line with the previous ones.

The new image comes from a user on weibo, but there’s no way of knowing whether it shows the real device or not, so we’ll take it with a grain of salt for now.

As techmesto notes, however, the photo appears to be showing that the App Launcher will be divided into sections, with three icons displayed on each of them.

What Nokia Normandy shows on its screen does not resemble what we’re accustomed to seeing on Android-based devices, but this might be due to the fact that Nokia will actually launch it with a modified version of the OS.

Furthermore, the company might pack its own App Launcher on top of the operating system. Overall, the smartphone will closely resemble Nokia’s Asha series, and even the back button on the front proves that.

What the new leaked photo also unveils is the fact that Normandy’s users will have access to an application storefront, as there is an app store icon visible on the screen, though no details on what portal that will be has been offered as of now.

All in all, it appears that the mobile phone is actually nearing its official release date, despite the fact that it seems rather unlikely for Nokia, which is heavily focused on Windows Phone, to launch an Android device.

Rumor has it that the device will be unveiled during the first quarter of this year. It might even make an appearance at the MWC 2014 show in Barcelona, provided that previous reports on the matter pan out.
